Dating from 1827, this exceptional antique jewellery box was manufactured and retailed by one of the finest English cabinet makers, David Edwards. It is veneered in Brazilian Rosewood, inlaid with a brass floral and scrollwork design, and finished with brass edging and recessed brass side handles.
The inside of the box is lined with burgundy velvet and Morocco leather. The top leather-bound and velvet-lined jewellery tray, with a removable sub-tray, lifts out to reveal a secondary leather-bound tray beneath. With both trays removed, a lined base section becomes accessible.
The ruched velvet panel in the lid drops forward to reveal a removable free-standing leather-bound mirror and a concealed letter wallet.
A beautifully preserved Edwards paper manufacturer’s and retailer’s label is affixed to the underside of the lid.
The Bramah lock comes with its original key.
The box comes in excellent condition both externally and internally.
