Dating from the mid-1820’s, this imposing antique gentleman’s travelling jewellery box is manufactured from solid Cuban mahogany with brass strapped edging.

The interior of the box is lined with red velvet, moiré silk and Morocco leather. The top tray, made from mahogany, is fitted with a tilting secret floor that reveals a further velvet-lined section beneath.

A spring-loaded leather-bound panel with a writing surface on the reverse drops down from the underside of the lid.

The independently lockable lower drawer is fitted with two removable mahogany trays, and a full width compartmented front section.

Two brass plaques inset to the front internal rim of the box are engraved with Manufactured by Bayley & Blew Cockspur Street, London.

Both locks are fully working with their original keys.

The condition of the box is excellent both externally and internally.
