This large and impressive antique jewellery box, dating from the early 1820’s, is veneered in Brazilian rosewood with right-angle brass edging. It is assuredly the cabinet work of David Edwards.
The large heraldic crest, engraved onto brass and inset to the lid, bears the symbology of masted ships with sails on display, denoting an important naval connection within the family.
The interior of the box is lined with red velvet, grosgrain silk and gold-tooled leather.
The independently lockable lower drawer is edged with matching gold-tooled leather accompanying velvet, and features a Morocco leather writing surface.
Both Bramah locks retain their original keys.
The box comes in beautiful condition both externally and internally.
