Manufactured and retailed by William Lund in 1867, this large antique jewellery box is veneered in Coromandel with brass edging, inlay, and brass recessed side handles.
The interior is lined with blue Morocco leather, moiré silk, and velvet. The front flap of the box opens forward with the aid of a push button. Two concealed, spring-loaded drawers, manufactured from solid coromandel, are fitted within the front interior fascia; these are deployed by pressing two false screw heads on the rear rim of the box. Both drawers are compartmented, the top being additionally fitted with a small removable tray.
A leather-bound mirror frame, with a ruched velvet panel on the reverse, is fitted to the underside of the lid. Once removed, a concealed leather-bound letter wallet becomes accessible.
The Chubb Detector lock, stamped with Lund – London, retains its original key.
