Dating from 1816, this antique jewellery box is veneered in kingwood and inlaid with a brass floral design accompanying panels of brass stringing. It is finished with right-angle brass edging, recessed brass side handles and a central brass plate to the lid bearing an engraved initials ‘CAJC’

The interior, lined with black velvet and moirè silk, is fitted with a beautifully presented manufacturer’s label in the lid; set behind glass, and in a matching kingwood frame, there is a paper label belonging to David Edwards of 21 King Street, Bloomsbury Square. Due to the high level of presentation, it is likely that this box served as an advertising piece within their shop. I certainly haven’t seen anything like this before.

The ‘Muckleston Patent’ Bramah lock comes with its original key.
