This large French antique travelling jewellery case, dating from around 1810, is made from solid Cuban Mahogany. The lid and base section have been sculpted from two separate pieces of solid of wood which have then been hollowed out for the interior to be fitted. The box is finished with a rectangular brass lock frontage, brass finger plate, central brass escutcheon, and inlaid double brass stringing to the perimeter of the lid.
The interior, lined with black velvet and matching moiré silk, has been compartmented into six sections.
The characteristic double action lock comes with its working key.
