Dating from the late 1830’s, this large antique document box was manufactured by Lucy Leuchars (William Leuchars’ mother). It is veneered in Brazilian Rosewood, edged in brass and finished with a Bramah lock. The engraved crest and motto to the central brass plate belongs to the Wilson Clan of Scotland.
The interior walls of the box have been inlaid with solid satinwood parquetry work accompanying gold velvet and moiré silk.
A maker’s plate to the rear rim of the box is engraved with L. Leuchars – Maker To Her Majesty – 38 Piccadilly – London.
This box comes in beautiful condition throughout and retains its original vibrant colour and French polish.
The Bramah lock is fully working and comes with its original key.
