This antique jewellery box, dating from the early 1870’s, is veneered in burr walnut with ebony edging. It was manufactured by one of the finest English cabinetmakers, George Betjemann & Sons of 36 & 38 Pentonville Road, London, and retailed by Henry Rodrigues of 42 Piccadilly, London.
The interior of the box is lined with blue Morocco leather accompanying blue velvet and moiré silk. There is a removable leather-bound tray with a further leather-bound area beneath.
A push button to the rear of the box releases a spring-loaded front drawer containing a velvet-lined jewellery area and a central, full width ring/ cuff-link channel. Inset to the front rim of the drawer is an engraved brass retailer’s plate that reads, H. Rodrigues – 42, Piccadilly.
The lock retains its original Bramah key.
This box comes in beautiful condition throughout and retains its original vibrant colour and French polish.
