This ‘museum quality’ antique sewing box, dating from the early 1850’s, is veneered in coromandel and overlaid with an exquisitely fretworked and engraved brass overlay depicting grapevine foliation.
The interior is beautifully original throughout; it retains its gold leaf design on all the velvet, ruched silk formation to the underside of the lid, as well as all its decorative mother of pearl cotton spools, tape measure and sewing tools.
The ruched silk flap in the lid drops forward to reveal a concealed letter wallet behind.
The lock comes with its original key.
Comes in very good original condition both externally and internally.
