This antique jewellery box in burr walnut was manufactured in the mid-1860’s by the highly respected English cabinetmakers and retailers, Halstaff & Hannaford.

The interior of the box is lined with purple velvet and matching Morocco leather. The interior brass work has been finely engraved with a scrollwork design.

The main section is fitted with two removable leather-bound jewellery trays accompanying a full width rear compartment.

The inside walls of the lid are veneered in coromandel and delicately inlaid with double brass stringing. There is a matching coromandel framed mirror fitted to the underside of the lid that has a ruched velvet panel to the reverse. A secret push button in the roof of the lid springs the mirror forward to reveal a leather-bound letter wallet behind.

A push button to the rear of the box releases an independently lockable spring-loaded front drawer containing a compartmented interior and a ring/ cuff-link channel.
The Bramah patent lock and the lower drawer lock both come with their original keys.
